What is our purpose?
We bring the great outdoors to the doorstep’ of young people & adults with special needs & disabilities...... giving them unforgettable practical experiences of nature in action, via an exciting & educational ‘four seasons course programme’.
What you will get out of coming to the Great Out-Tours.
- Understand how the countryside flows giving you the knowledge & experiences to provide ‘stepping stones’ & potential pathways to community project work & employment.
- Be able to identify how this knowledge can fit in with your own day-to-day lives.
- Take part in both individual & team-work based activities to develop confidence, independence & practical skills.
- Make new friends.
- Understand the reasons & importance of countryside management activities & link them to where you live & beyond.
- Via twelve different countryside subject areas, you will have your very own ‘learning plan’ produced. This will track your progress & build a unique portfolio which would help your success in finding community project work &/or employment.
- Develop yourself further by taking part in work placement opportunities we have set out with local work providers.
where do the activities take place?... Scocus Barn
- Scocus Barn is a 60 acre farm near Cross in Hand & Heathfield - East Sussex, set in the High Weald area of outstanding natural beauty.
- Within the estate there are breathtaking views, ancient woodlands & archaeology dating back to Roman times.
- The farm is home to cows, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks & a mixture of beautiful woodland, green fields & unusual wildlife.
- For anyone loving the out doors this farm is a great & ever evolving experience.
